CHAPTER NINE
Addison pulled the hotel’s thin bed sheet up to her neck, her hand shaking. She stared at Owen’s face. The last time she’d seen it, it had been disfigured with blood, and she could still see swelling and lacerations on his cheek where she’d hit him.
“Everyone take it easy,” Cutler said, his voice low and even. “My boys all know we’re here. They’ll be up here any minute. We can’t have a firefight in the middle of a hotel.”
Owen laughed, a high, sick giggle that Addison had never heard. The sound of it made her shudder.
“I don’t think so. See¸ we paid a visit to your ‘bro’ Dallas’s apartment earlier today. I don’t think he’ll be doing anything to help you while we’ve got his lady. He even provided us with this,” he said, holding up a key card to their room.
Addison felt Cutler hands ball into fists next to her.
“We’ve taken care of everything, I assure you. There’s no one else even staying on this floor, or the rooms above and below us. We wouldn’t want to be...interrupted,” Owen continued. He took a step toward the head of the bed and ran one finger across Addison’s hairline and down her cheek. Cutler’s body radiated fury next to her, but they both stayed frozen. “Both of you get up,” he ordered.
Addison and Cutler reluctantly separated, his fingers grasped hers under the sheet and he gave her a final squeeze. Addison pulled the sheet with her as she stood, covering herself, as Cutler stood naked on the other side of the bed. One of the other men tossed him his boxers from the floor, and Cutler pulled them on.
“Go stand over there,” Owen ordered, waving his hand toward an armchair in the corner of the room by the window. Cutler and Addison walked over to the chair and were each immediately flanked by one of the men, who trained their guns on their heads. Owen sat casually in the rolling chair by the desk, and the third man holstered his gun and stood next to him.
“You moved on quickly,” Owen said to Addison. His voice was light, but his eyes were dark and expressionless. “I suppose I understand, though. I have been cheating on you constantly since we started dating. I’m frankly surprised you never realized it. But this one, I wouldn’t have pictured him as your type. He’s sort of, rough around the edges, don’t you think?” His eyes flicked to Cutler. “Kneel,” he commanded him.
Cutler slowly sank to his knees. Owen leisurely stood up and sauntered over to him. Owen leaned over, and took Cutler’s face in his hand, pulling his chin up and studying his face. Cutler stared back at him defiantly. Owen leaned back and punched Cutler in the face. Addison cried out, but Cutler was silent. He reeled back slightly, then righted himself.
Owen frowned, then stepped back and kicked Cutler in the face. With a crack, Cutler’s nose was broken and blood flowed down his face.
